Graduate Fellowships in Music
The Department of Music makes every effort to offer financial assistance to all worthy applicants. Fellowships and assistantships are generally renewable on a year-to-year basis, although a number of distinguished four-and five-year awards are made each year. In recent years, students in good standing have continued to receive support through the fourth year of study and beyond.

Applicants who wish to be considered for financial assistance need do no more than check the appropriate box on the application form.

BENJAMIN FRANKLIN FELLOWSHIPS are awarded by the Graduate Division to entering music students of exceptional promise. These fellowships provide tuition, payment of the general fee, student health services and a stipend of $21,000 for each of the four or five years of study (provided that the student's progress within the program is satisfactory). During the second and third years, the student normally serves as a teaching fellow within the department.

Additionally, the department administers several prizes for distinguished student compositions: the David Halstead Prize, the Hilda K. Nitzsche Prize, and the Helen L. Weiss Prize.
